Frequently Asked Questions
What is Survivors Community?
Survivors Community is a website that was built, by myself, a survivor of child sexual abuse. It is a site to share information and the healing journey. The community section of the site consists of various message boards and chat rooms.
Do you have to be a survivor to visit here?
All the information on the main part of the site is in the public domain, it may be viewed by anyone who wishes to understand more about child abuse.
Do you have to be a survivor to visit the community?
Yes, you must be a survivor to visit the main forums and chat rooms within the community. To become a member you must register your details and supply a valid email address. You will have to validate your membership by clicking a link on an email you receive
You can access the community by following the forum and chat link on the bottom of this page or the home page. Due to the nature of some of the posts I would prefer members to be at least 18 years old.
I am under 18 may I visit the community?
If you are 16 or 17, you may be considered for membership, I will look at your registration details and make a decision on an individual basis.
I am a partner or supporter of a survivor, may I visit the community?
We have recently included a forum for partners or supporters of survivors, which is called The Community Supporters Rooom. Supporters may use that room of the community only, to ask questions and get advice from others. Supporters are not permitted to enter the main forums and chat rooms.
I am looking for some information on child abuse/MPD/PTSD/SRA can you help me?
There are buttons on the home page which lead to information on some of these topics, also check out the links page for information on other sites.
I/My friend is being abused, what can I/they do?
The first thing I would say is talk to someone, a teacher, a safe relative, a friend's parent, any safe adult. Abusers often tell children that they will not be believed or something bad will happen if they tell, this keeps the child silenced with fear. If you dont feel ready or safe enough to talk to anyone you know, call a helpline, you dont have to give your real name and the call is free. They will be able to listen and advise you.
